A Word from Founder - James Adzraku

I want to express my deep gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to every one of you as the founder of the Afram Plains Career Guidance and Mentorship Foundation. Your unwavering dedication, support, and hard work have been the driving force behind our foundation’s success and the positive impact we are making on the lives of individuals and communities through our interventions.

I extend special thanks to our dedicated team at Applied Geotechnical Drilling for trusting and providing the necessary funding to push our vision forward. Your support has been instrumental in implementing life changing initiatives such as scholarships, surgical outreach programs, and improvements in healthcare and education in the Donkorkrom area.

To our devoted team members and experts including Dr. Koku Awoonor, Dr. Foster Amposah, Dr. Frank Ewusie Brown, Dr. Ziblim Kasuleh, and all the supporting staff from Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital and Eastern Regional Hospital, I appreciate your passion and commitment. Your selfless efforts in organizing events, providing mentorship, and implementing projects have been nothing short of extraordinary. Each of you plays a vital role in shaping the future of our beneficiaries, and I am truly grateful for your dedication.

Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones that were once only dreams. We have transformed lives, brought hope to the less privileged, and created a brighter future for our community. The collective impact of our collaborative efforts is a testament to the power of teamwork and our shared belief in the greater good.

Our Intervention

Our initial intervention involves conducting a seminar on career choices for Junior and Senior High School students in Kwahu Afram Plains North. This pilot program will commence in Donkorkrom and its surrounding areas, as well as selected communities on the Islands, with subsequent expansion on a zonal basis. We are not only focused on guiding young people but also offer scholarships and support community development initiatives, providing them with opportunities to pursue their dreams of success. Through our interventions, we strive to create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of young individuals in the Afram Plains region. We are dedicated to empowering the youth, promoting career development, and fostering a supportive community that uplifts and values its young generation.

KEY FOCUS AREAS

The Afram Plains Career Guidance and Mentorship Foundation places emphasis on the following focus areas:

Career Mentorship and Support: The foundation recognizes the significance of career mentorship and support as fundamental to an individual’s lifestyle and personality. Through various programs and initiatives, young people are guided and supported by making informed career choices and provided with the necessary resources to advance in their chosen paths.

Market and Job Opportunity Awareness: The foundation conducts knowledge-based interventions, incorporating research and expert advice, to aid the youth in understanding the current market and job opportunities. By providing support and guidance, young individuals are equipped with the necessary knowledge to pursue suitable career paths.

Whole Being Development: The foundation acknowledges the importance of holistic development and offers programs to develop various aspects of an individual’s personality. This includes creating positive community spaces, fostering leadership skills, promoting resilience and positive attitudes, and enhancing communication and networking abilities.

How we identify community strengths

 

Social

Ghana, as a developing country, faces various social issues that impact the well-being and
opportunities of its population, particularly Afram Plains as a deprived district. Challenges such as
poverty, limited access to quality healthcare, inadequate educational resources, and a lack of career
guidance create a difficult environment for young individuals striving for a better future. These
circumstances underscore the critical necessity for interventions that address these issues, empowering
youth to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.

 

Economics

The significance of interventions in health and education is evident. The district of Kwahu
Afram Plains North, like Ghana as a whole, requires a strong and educated workforce for economic
growth and development. However, without sufficient access to quality healthcare and education, the
district’s human capital potential remains untapped. Our organization seeks to invest in health and
education interventions to contribute to the development of a skilled workforce capable of driving
economic progress and reducing inequalities.

 

Transportation

In Afram Plains, transportation challenges, including those related to water
transportation, have posed persistent obstacles, significantly limiting the community’s access to vital
services and opportunities. Particularly in rural areas, where road infrastructure is inadequate or
nonexistent, the lack of reliable and efficient transportation options has imposed hardships on
residents. This has adversely impacted on essential aspects of daily life, such as accessing healthcare,
education, and economic opportunities. To overcome these challenges, collaborative efforts and
innovative solutions are essential to improve mobility and uplift the overall well-being of the
community.

The Afram Plains Career Guidance and Mentorship Foundation places emphasis on the following focus areas:

Our future Plans

The NGO as said earlier, is focused on improving development in the Afram Plains North District, and if possible, extending it to nearby Districts.

The NGO is also aiming at including vocational training in its activities to equip the Youth of Afram Plains North with vocational skills that can serve as a source of livelihood for them.

The foundation is currently organizing a workshop for the youth within the district. The workshop will also serve as a catalyst for the opening of applications for the 2021/2022 Academic year. Registration for the workshop is currently ongoing.
